When I broke up with my girlfriend, there was no better therapy I could imagine than a chance to get away from it all and so, at the age of 25, I purchased an around the world ticket and headed out on a trek across the planet.  My journey took me through the sandy deserts of the Sahara and the Mohave as well mountains from the Catskills and the Sierra Nevada to the Himalayans and Andes.  I saw the beaches of Normandy and South America and surfed the waves in both Australia and Hawaii.  I visited the land of my ancestors during a stop in Israel while traveling through the Middle East and I ate spicy Cajun food in the backwater towns of Creole Louisiana.  By the time the trip was over I forgot why I even had left and, as I had hoped, I was over the trauma of my breakup.
