Hive parts are cut to standard dimensions that mimic the space bees naturally leave between their combs. One new hive with bees and basic equipment costs about $150. The floating objects prevent buy honey bees from drowning. Avoid this by giving your bees a water source in your yard such as a container with floating wood or styrofoam chips. In dry weather, bees may collect water at neighbors’ swimming pools or water spigots. Place hives so that bee flight paths do not cross sidewalks, playgrounds or other public areas.
