Inert gas metal arc welding also known as MIG welding can be an automatic or semi-automatic process where continuous, yet consumable wire electrodes along with the shielding gas get fed through the welding gun. The constant voltage and direct power current sources are mainly used with inert gas metal arc welding. However, there are even cases where alternating and constant current system gets used. Initially, the cost of the inert gas limited the use of inert gas metal arc welding to steels; but with time and the usage of semi-inert gases, their role in welding process started growing more and more each day.
