Where To Start With Interior Design

A frequently asked question put to interior designers is “Just where do I start?” The general consensus on an answer is that you start with the space. It is not until you have organized the structure enclosing the space that you can begin to decide upon the finishes, ie. the wallpaper, the fabrics and the furniture. What usually makes any of us shy away from becoming an interior designer is probably a combination of the regard in which we hold what someone has deemed to be appropriate in the past and a fear of the irreversibility of structural changes. To dismiss all aspirations to mould an interior to our own needs for such misguided reasons would be to limit the opportunities offered by a given space. By reshaping an interior we are taking creativity to its logical conclusion and producing a space which is both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
