The Main Function Of Vitamin D

Vitamin D is in the group of fat soluble vitamins, AED and K. It acts like a hormone by sending messages to our intestines that help in the absorption of calcium and phosphorus. You receive Vitamin D from food sources and exposure to Ultraviolet Radiation from the sun. When Vitamin D is consumed from the food that we eat or the sunshine that we receive, it is then converted to an active hormone by our liver or kidneys. The main function of Vitamin D is to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus. By doing this it helps in promoting good bone health and prevents a disease called rickets in children.
