Hemroid Symptoms and Treatment

December 30th, 2008 by admin

Hemroids are defined as the enlarged veins in the anus or lower rectum.  Technically, we all have hemorrhoidal veins in the rectum, the anus, and the anal canal.  However, when these veins become inflamed and/or irritated that is the time they become piles or hemroids.  The accompanying hemroid symptoms are swelling, bleeding, pain, itching and/or burning sensation.

Almost always, hemroids can be treated by over-the-counter medication such as numbing lotions to stop the pain and inflammation.  Also used are shrinking medications which helps to lessen irritation and pain.

For severe cases of hemroids, available treatment are rubber band ligation or rubber banding, sclerotherapy, infrared lights, and stapling.
