If your schedule is already packed to the brim with work life, family life, appointments and even some “me” time, it can be difficult to squeeze in time for exercise. Working out for 30 to 60 minutes each day has cardiovascular, mental and muscle health benefits along with the potential for weight loss, so it’s clear that fitness should be a part of your busy life, even if you can’t see how to fit it all in. While you might not have time to go to the gym for an hour each day, even the busiest person has time for fitness. When you realize the benefits of daily exercise, you’ll see that it becomes a priority for a time-crunched schedule. Sneak exercise in throughout your day to see how it affects you.
Start in the morning. If you don’t have time to exercise throughout the day, one of the best weight loss tips is to wake up 30 minutes early and hit the pavement for a walk or run. Even if you’re not a morning person, leaving exercise till the end of the day is risky since there’s always a change that another engagement will pop up, and fitness is often the first item on your schedule to be cleared for other items. By exercising first thing in the morning, you don’t have any distractions and – most importantly – fewer excuses for skipping your workout. It also sets a precedent for a healthier day, so you’re less likely to be inactive or eat unhealthy foods.
Wear a pedometer. Awareness is a powerful weight loss tool, and simply knowing more about your level of fitness is enough to help you exercise on even the busiest of days. That’s why a pedometer is such an excellent tool for fitness. Knowing exactly how many steps you take every day inspires you to keep moving and walking more to see if you can beat a previous day’s total. Aim for a specific number of steps each day and you’ll find yourself making a point to walk more, which adds up throughout the day for a better level of fitness overall. Even if you don’t have a standalone pedometer, most smart phones have apps available that could your steps so you can keep track of your daily fitness.
Sneak it in. Just because you didn’t make it to the gym doesn’t mean your schedule has completely taken over your fitness and weight loss plans. You can still sneak in daily exercise by being smart about moving your body. For instance, try taking the stairs any time you visit a building with several floors. Or, park as far away from an office building as possible so you’re forced to hike in. When you look actively, you’ll find several opportunities for casual fitness each day. Taking advantage of these opportunities helps to add to your daily tally and can help supplement your workouts when you have a busier schedule.
The trick to staying fit when you’re busy is to learn to make fitness a priority in your life. Whether working out becomes your new “me” time or you schedule your workouts like an unbreakable appointment, making fitness a priority pays off over time through mood improvement, better health and even weight loss.
