A Very Eclectic and Lovely Room

May 25th, 2010 by admin

The furniture and accessories are a combination of hand-me-downs, thrift store finds, and her mother’s photos from her wedding photography new york collection, but Lisa’s personal touch is everywhere. All of the slipcovers, cushions, pillows, lamp shades, duvets, and window treatments were made by hand at her efficient sewing station. The sconces were found via eBay, which she re-wired herself. The bed frames were custom built to fit below windows or in narrow spaces. The captain’s bed in her son’s room is actually a vintage dresser tucked beneath a wall-mounted frame, which we thought was genius. The only new purchase was the living room sofa, which she deftly slipcovered in a coordinating fabric.

Learning How To Knit Scarves

April 30th, 2010 by admin

I’ve recently started learning how to knit, and to be quite honest I’m not very good at it. I enjoy doing it and have made quite a few things, but technically my work definitely needs some work. In order to entice people to want to wear some of the things I was knitting, I decided to make them more unique. I bought some beads and charms from a Craft Supplies store online and stuck them throughout the scarves I was knitting. I was also sure to use very soft yarn so they’d be comfortable. Now my friends are asking for me to knit scarves for them! I may not be a great knitter, but I do know how to accessorize!

Cooking up a storm

April 17th, 2010 by admin

Because of the minimal floor space, our photographer-chef said that she also wanted everything flush to avoid catching fire while she cooked, so the handles are recessed. This is just one detail of how well she used each inch of the kitchen. She says, “Every square inch of the kitchen is used — you can’t see it in the photo, but the drywall actually dies into the  frame of the cabinet at the outside of the kitchen, just to avoid losing the extra space that framing would have required!” And yet this kitchen doesn’t look packed, or cluttered, or bristling with function. It looks open and inviting. Who’d have thought that a new york city wedding photographer would know so much about cooking!

Giving Him Blues Guitar Lessons

April 3rd, 2010 by admin

Ever since the first time we met, my fiance has wanted to learn how to play guitar. But he’s never really taken the time to do it, since he works so hard to support our little family while I’m going to school. He hadn’t mentioned it for a long time, until last summer when we went down to visit his Grandma in New Orleans. That got him thinking about it again, and so for his birthday, I’m going to pay for blues guitar lessons for him. I know he would love it, and will make time for it if it’s a gift from me.

A Great Creative Outlet

March 24th, 2010 by admin

I have always believed that we all need a creative outlet to be able to escape from the pressures that life has in store for us.  My outlet has always been music.  I play several instruments and I sing.  Music means a lot to me.  My friend Tammy went through some rough times and I suggested that she try and figure out what her outlet is.  She decided that it is art and she has been painting up a storm.  She has created some really cool pop art as well.  She told me that her art is really helping her to cope better with her problems.
