Record Keeping for Tax Purposes

August 31st, 2008 by admin

How long do you have to keep your tax records? Most people think it is seven years. I have not checked, but I usually keep my records like my property tax deduction records at least ten years. It would be my luck that I would only keep them seven years, and I would get audited in the eighth year.

You see, I do my taxes myself; so I have never checked into how long you actually need to keep them. It is one of those things I have been going to do but just keep putting it off. Oh well, better to keep them too long than not have them if I get audited.
